In this set of materials, the reading passage introduces the international style, and the listening passage differs from it. The international style is one of architecture forms. It emphasizes function. Moreover, it rejects traditional decoration. The Bauhaus, which was famous German design school, affected that style of the urban building utilized steel, glass, and an open interior. The international style inspired building boom in the United States. Expecially, it was popular in New York.
The listening passages contrasts with reading passages. Many towers which was established by international style destroyed cityscape; on the other hand, it sustained popularity. For example, UN secretariat building also headed toward functional respect. Even though it's beautiful building, we are in contact too much with this kind of style. Finally, we can tired of it and feel that it's ugly and also ridiculous.
