In this set of materials, reading passage introduces about garlic story in twentieth cetury and listening passage supports it.
The Garlic which is a member of the lily family with its distinctive odor and taste was believed beneficial properties of garlics in twentieth century. First, it was used s a medicine in Ancient Egypt where it was used to cure twenty- two different illness. Moreover, the ancient Greeks and Romans found even more usess than Ancient Egypt. they used it as fedding to soldiers because it was believed to make men more courageous. Quite a few seafaring cultures also have in helping sailors to endure long voyages. In conclusion, even as late as early in the twentieth cetury, they have belief which garlic could fight infections.
According to listening passages, it adds to reading passages. Some belif in old ages can be superstition; however, It's not just superstition. A garilc has some benefit for people. For examples, it can kills bacteria, so it was correct belief which Ancient Egypt, Greeks, Romans trusted about galics reaction as medicines. There are some reserches which can prove garlic's benefits. A uncooked garlic could kill 23 kinds of different bacterias. The bacteria can not only kill bacteria and also affects blood presure. It can decreses blood presure, so a garlic has power that prevent diseases such as heartattack.

According to the reading passage, garlic has been used for various purposes in lots of regions of the world over years. People thought that garlic might have some benefitial properties. Some of them like ancient Greeks and Romans believed that it had magigcal power like warding off evil spells or curses. In the other hands, people like Egytians or Vikings used to use garlic for more medicinal reasons. A recent instance of using garlic is during the W.W.1. is that Garlic juice had been applied over wounds of soldiers.
In the listening passage, the lecturer presents medicinal benefits of garlic. Paster(? French Microbiologist) found out that garlic could kill 23 kinds of bacteria. So uncooked garlic juice was used as ointment during W.W.1. Garlic also has medical benefits, being intaken.
